John 1:1–18 THE WORD WHO DWELLS AMONG US
Year A, Wednesday, December 31 - 6th Day in the Octave of Christmas — Year-End
As we come to the end of the year, today’s Gospel lifts our eyes beyond time and history to the eternal mystery of God. Saint John reminds us that before anything began, the Word already was. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. All that we have lived, all that we have experienced this year, finds its meaning in Him.
This Word did not remain distant. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” God entered our human story—with its joys and sorrows, successes and failures. As we look back on the year now ending, we may see moments of light and moments of darkness. Yet the Gospel assures us that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
As we stand at the threshold of a new year, we are invited not simply to count the days gone by, but to renew our trust in Christ who walks with us into the future. To receive Him is to receive grace upon grace. May we begin the coming year rooted in this truth: that God is with us, dwelling among us, guiding us with His light.
Question to Ponder: As I reflect on the year that has passed, how have I allowed Christ, the Word made flesh, to dwell in my life and shape my choices?
