JOHN 1:1–18 THE WORD MADE FLESH: PEACE AMONG US
Year A, Nativity of Our Lord
On Christmas, we celebrate the incredible mystery that the Word of God, who was with God from the beginning, has become flesh and lived among us. This is the ultimate gift: God’s presence in the world, bringing light, life, and peace.
In today’s Gospel, John emphasizes that Jesus is the source of all creation, the light that darkness cannot overcome. His coming is not only a historical event, but a living reality: God enters our lives to bring reconciliation, healing, and true peace. Christ does not come to remove challenges or struggles, but to dwell with us amidst them, offering His presence as the foundation of lasting serenity.
Peace in Christ is not simply the absence of conflict. It is the deep, unwavering calm that comes from knowing we are loved, forgiven, and embraced by God. It is the peace that inspires hope, fills hearts with joy, and invites us to share His love with others.
As we celebrate this holy day, we are called to welcome Jesus fully into our lives. His light shines into every corner of our hearts, and His presence brings a peace that surpasses all understanding. Christmas reminds us that God is not distant; He is with us, Emmanuel—“God with us”—bringing harmony, reconciliation, and everlasting peace to the world.
Question to Ponder: How can I open my heart to Christ today so that His peace may dwell in me and flow through me to others?
