Mark 5:21–43 DO NOT BE AFRAID; JUST HAVE FAITH

Year A, Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, we witness two powerful stories of faith woven together. Jairus, a synagogue official, approaches Jesus with desperation and trust, pleading for the life of his daughter. Along the way, a woman suffering for many years quietly reaches out to touch Jesus’ cloak, believing that even this small act of faith will bring healing.

Both are met with compassion. The woman is healed and restored with dignity, and Jairus is encouraged by Jesus’ words, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” Even when the situation seems hopeless, Jesus brings life where there is fear and death.

This Gospel invites us to reflect on the courage it takes to trust God in moments of vulnerability. Faith does not always remove our struggles, but it opens the door for God’s grace to act. Jesus meets us where we are—whether we come boldly like Jairus or quietly like the woman—and leads us from fear to life.

Question to Ponder: In moments of fear or uncertainty, do I trust Jesus with confidence and place my hope in His power to bring life?
