JOHN 14:7–14 SEEING GOD IN THE ORDINARY

Year A, Saturday of the Fourth Week of Easter

In today’s Gospel, Philip makes a very human request: “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough.”

It sounds familiar. We also want something clear — something we can see, something that removes all doubt. “God, just show yourself.”

But Jesus gently responds, almost with a little sadness: “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

In other words, God is already in front of you — but you are expecting Him in a different way.

And that is often our struggle. We look for God in big signs, big moments, clear answers. But Jesus shows us that God is revealed in simple, ordinary ways —

through love,  patience, forgiveness, care.

Even in our daily routine — family life, work, small acts of kindness — God is present. But we can miss Him because we are expecting something more dramatic.

Jesus invites us to trust what we already see: His way of loving, His way of living.

And then He says something surprising — those who believe will do even greater works. Not necessarily bigger miracles, but deeper love, lived out in everyday life.

Question to ponder today: Am I waiting for big signs from God—or am I recognizing Him in the ordinary moments of my life?
