MATTHEW 11: 25-30 THE HEART THAT NEVER STOPS LOVING

Year A, Friday of the 10th Week in Ordinary Time

Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At the center of this beautiful feast is a simple but life-changing truth: Jesus loves us with a love that never gives up.

This year the feast carries a special meaning for us in the United States. As our nation prepares to mark its 250th anniversary, the bishops have chosen to consecrate our country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In a world marked by anxiety, division, violence, and uncertainty, we place our trust not in ourselves alone, but in the Heart of Christ that remains open to all.

The Gospel today gives us some of the most comforting words of Jesus: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” These words reveal the Sacred Heart more clearly than any image or devotion ever could.

Jesus looks at our lives and sees how much we carry. Some are burdened by health concerns. Some are weighed down by financial stress. Some are grieving the loss of someone they love. Others carry silent struggles—loneliness, anxiety, regret, family difficulties, or worries about the future. Many of these burdens are never spoken aloud.

And yet Jesus speaks directly into that reality: “Come to me.” He does not say, “Fix everything first.” He does not say, “Come when your life is in order.” He simply says, “Come.”

This is the Heart of Jesus—the Sacred Heart. A Heart that does not push people away but draws them close. A Heart that does not judge from a distance but enters into human suffering. A Heart that does not grow tired of loving.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart became widely known through St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, who shared Christ’s revelation of His Heart as a sign of divine mercy and love. But this Heart is not only a devotion of the past. It is alive today. It is present here, in this Eucharist, in this moment, speaking to each one of us.

Jesus also says, “Take my yoke upon you… and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” Here we discover the true rest He promises. Not a life without struggles, but a life carried with Him. Not the absence of burdens, but the presence of grace within them.

The Sacred Heart also challenges us. If we have received such love, we are called to share it. A heart touched by Christ becomes more patient, more forgiving, more compassionate, more willing to serve.

As we celebrate this feast and join in the consecration of our nation, we place everything into His Heart—our families, our worries, our wounds, our parish, and our future. For the Sacred Heart of Jesus is not simply a symbol of devotion. It is the living Heart of Christ still speaking to the world today: “Come to me.” And in Him, we find the rest our hearts have been searching for all along.
