JOHN 16:5–11 WHEN LETTING GO FEELS DIFFICULT
Year A, Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Easter
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples that He is going away. And instead of comforting Him, they are filled with sadness and fear. They cannot imagine how anything good could come from His leaving.
That feeling is very human. We also struggle with change, loss, uncertainty, and situations we cannot control. Sometimes life moves in directions we did not choose, and we hold on tightly because we are afraid of what comes next.
But Jesus says something surprising: “It is better for you that I go.” The disciples cannot understand it yet, but Jesus is preparing them for a deeper presence through the Holy Spirit.
Many times, we only see what we are losing. God sees what He is leading us toward.
The Holy Spirit quietly works within us—guiding, correcting, strengthening, and helping us see truth more clearly. Not always in dramatic ways, but often through small moments of clarity, courage, and peace.
Faith does not remove uncertainty. But it teaches us to trust that God is still working, even when life feels unsettled.
Question to ponder today: What am I struggling to let go of—and can I trust that God may still bring good out of it?
