JOHN 15:12–17LOVE THAT COSTS SOMETHING
Year A, Friday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Jesus says very clearly today: “Love one another as I have loved you.”
We use the word “love” very easily in daily life. But the way Jesus speaks about love is different. It is not just feelings or words—it is action. It is choosing to care, even when it is not easy.
He says, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life.” For most of us, that will not mean a dramatic moment. It means something more ordinary—and more challenging.
It means giving time when we are tired. Being patient when we are irritated. Forgiving when we are hurt. Staying faithful in relationships when it is difficult.
This kind of love costs something. That is why we often avoid it or limit it.
But Jesus does not command it as a burden. He calls us friends and invites us into His way of loving. A love that gives, that stays, that does not walk away.
And slowly, through these small daily choices, we become more like Him.
Question to ponder today: Where in my daily life is Jesus inviting me to love—not just in words, but in real, costly action?
