JOHN 16:29–33 PEACE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM
Year A, Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter
In today’s Gospel, the disciples finally say to Jesus, “Now we understand.” But Jesus knows that very soon they will become afraid, confused, and scattered.
That is very true to life. Sometimes we also feel strong in faith when things are calm. We believe we can handle difficulties. But when problems actually come—stress, disappointment, conflict, sickness, loneliness—we suddenly feel weak and uncertain.
Jesus understands that human weakness. He does not shame the disciples for it. Instead, He prepares them gently. He says, “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
Notice that Jesus does not promise a trouble-free life. He promises something deeper—His presence and His peace in the middle of it.
That matters because many people today are tired. Tired emotionally, mentally, spiritually. And sometimes we think peace will come only when every problem disappears. But Jesus offers a peace that can exist even while life remains difficult.
Not because everything is perfect, but because He has already overcome what ultimately destroys us: fear, hopelessness, and sin.
So today Jesus invites us not to panic when life becomes heavy. He invites us to trust Him, even when we feel scattered inside.
Question to ponder today: When life becomes difficult and uncertain, do I allow fear to take over—or do I turn toward the peace Jesus offers me?
