JOHN 21:15-19 LOVE ME… THEN BEGIN AGAIN

Year A, Friday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Today’s Gospel is deeply human. Peter had failed Jesus. He denied Him three times during the Passion. And now, after the Resurrection, Jesus does not humiliate him or shame him. Instead, He asks a simple but painful question: “Do you love me?”

Three times Jesus asks it—not to wound Peter again, but to heal him.

That is important for us because many people carry regret. We all have moments we wish we could undo—words spoken in anger, failures, poor decisions, times we turned away from what we knew was right. Sometimes we think those moments define us forever.

But Jesus shows something different. He does not ignore Peter’s failure, but neither does He let failure become the end of Peter’s story. Instead, He gives him a mission: “Feed my sheep.”

That is grace. Jesus still trusts imperfect people.

And maybe that is the hope we need today. God does not wait for us to become flawless before He calls us forward. He asks only for honesty, love, and the willingness to begin again.

Following Jesus is not about never falling. It is about allowing Him to lift us up again and continue walking with Him.

Question to ponder today: What failure or regret in my life do I still struggle to place into the healing and forgiving hands of Jesus?
