MATTHEW 9:32-38 SEEING PEOPLE THROUGH THE EYES OF JESUS

Year A, Tuesday of the 14th Week in Ordinary Time

At the end of today's Gospel, we are told that Jesus looked at the crowds and "His heart was moved with compassion for them." He did not see a crowd of strangers. He saw people who were tired, confused, hurting, and searching for hope. He saw them as "sheep without a shepherd."

It makes me wonder: How do I look at the people around me? It is easy to judge, criticize, or simply ignore those who are difficult, different, or in need. We often see only their faults or failures. Jesus sees something deeper. He sees their pain, their struggles, and their need for love.

Perhaps the greatest miracle we can perform today is not to change someone's life overnight, but to see them with the compassionate eyes of Christ. A kind word, a listening ear, a patient response, or a simple act of mercy can become God's way of touching another person's heart.

Jesus also reminds us that "the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few." The answer to the needs of the world is not someone else. It begins with us. Today, let us ask the Lord to give us His compassionate heart and make us willing workers in His harvest, beginning with the people He places in our path.
