JOHN 21:20-25 FOLLOW ME, NOT COMPARISON
Year A, Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter
In today’s Gospel, Peter looks at another disciple and asks Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
It is such a familiar human moment. We also do this often—comparing lives, comparing paths, comparing blessings, comparing struggles. We wonder why someone else seems to have a different journey, an easier life, or a different role.
But Jesus gently redirects Peter: “What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”
That answer is not harsh—it is freeing. Because comparison often steals our peace. We lose energy focusing on others instead of living our own call faithfully.
Jesus is not asking Peter to ignore others, but to stop letting comparison distract him from his own path. Each disciple has a different journey, but the same Lord.
In our daily life too, this is a real struggle. We compare careers, families, achievements, even spiritual lives. And slowly, we become restless instead of grateful.
Jesus brings us back to simplicity: focus on your relationship with me. Be faithful where you are. Walk your path with love and trust.
The Gospel ends by saying there is much more Jesus did than can be written. In other words, God is still working in countless ways, in each person’s life, beyond what we can see or compare.
Question to ponder today: Am I living my own call with peace—or constantly distracted by comparing my life with others?
