Matthew 15:29-37 Feeding Hope, Sharing God’s Abundance
Year A, Wednesday of the 1st Week of Advent
In today’s Gospel, Jesus moves to a mountainside, heals the sick, and then performs the miracle of feeding the crowd with just seven loaves and a few small fish. As we walk through Advent, this story reminds us of God’s generosity and His care for every need, big or small. Maranatha—Come, Lord Jesus! is not only a cry for His coming but also a call to trust in His abundant love.
Jesus’ compassion is striking. He does not turn away the weary, the sick, or the hungry. He meets them where they are. Advent invites us to reflect on how God meets us in our own moments of hunger—hunger for love, for healing, for hope, and for meaning. Like the crowd, we may feel that our needs are too great or that our resources are too small. Yet Jesus shows us that even what seems insufficient in our hands can become abundant in His care.
This Gospel also reminds us of the hope that arises when we share. Jesus multiplies the loaves and fish in response to the disciples’ willingness to give what they had. Our small acts of love, prayer, and service, offered with trust, can feed hearts and spirits beyond what we imagine. Advent is a season of preparation, not just to wait for Christ, but to actively live hope by sharing His love with others.
Perhaps today we are facing scarcity in time, energy, or resources. Jesus whispers to us that hope is not limited by what we have—it is amplified when we surrender it to Him. He invites us to trust, to serve, and to rejoice in the miracles that flow when we act in faith. Maranatha!—Come, Lord, and multiply our hope, our love, and our capacity to serve.
Question to Ponder: Where in my life can I offer what little I have and trust Jesus to turn it into something greater?
