Luke 5:12–16 MOVED WITH COMPASSION, MADE CLEAN

Year A, Friday after the Epiphany

In today’s Gospel, a man afflicted with leprosy approaches Jesus with humility and trust. He kneels before Him and says, “Lord, if You wish, You can make me clean.” It is a simple prayer, filled with faith and surrender.

Jesus responds not only with words, but with a gesture that speaks volumes. He stretches out His hand and touches the man. In doing so, Jesus crosses boundaries of fear and exclusion. His touch brings healing, dignity, and restoration. The man is not only cured of his illness, but welcomed back into the community.

During the Epiphany season, Christ continues to reveal the heart of God—a God who draws near, who is not afraid of our wounds, and who desires to make us whole. This Gospel invites us to bring our own brokenness to Jesus with honesty and trust, believing that His compassion has the power to heal and renew.

Question to Ponder: What part of my life am I being invited to place confidently into the healing and compassionate hands of Jesus?
