MARK 3:13-19 CALLED TO PROTECT LIFE
Year A, Friday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus goes up the mountain and calls to Himself those He desired. One by one, He names the Twelve and invites them into a close relationship with Him. Before they are sent out to preach or to serve, they are first called simply to be with Him.
This order is important. Discipleship begins not with activity, but with relationship. The apostles are not chosen because they are perfect or prepared; they are chosen because Jesus desires them. He forms them slowly, patiently, through time spent in His presence.
This Gospel speaks to us as well. In the midst of busy lives and many responsibilities, Jesus still calls us by name. He invites us to step away from the noise, to spend time with Him in prayer, and to allow Him to shape our hearts. Only then are we truly ready to serve others with love and faith.
Question to Ponder: Do I make space in my life to be with Jesus, allowing Him to shape me before I act for Him?
