MARK 16:15–20 GO AND PROCLAIM WITH CONFIDENCE
Year A, Saturday of the Third Week of Easter
On the Feast of St. Mark, we hear Jesus’ final words in this Gospel: “Go into the
whole world and proclaim the Gospel.” It is simple, but it is not soft. It is a mission.
And yet, notice who Jesus is speaking to—disciples who had failed Him, doubted
Him, and even abandoned Him. Still, He trusts them with His message. That already
tells us something powerful: God does not wait for perfect people to continue His
work. He sends real people with real weakness.
We may also feel unworthy at times. We may think faith is for stronger, holier, more
confident people. But today’s Gospel removes that excuse. The message of Christ is
not carried by perfection—it is carried by encounter. “They went forth and preached
everywhere, while the Lord worked with them.”
That line is key. It is not only what the disciples do—it is what the Lord does with
them. They are not alone. Neither are we.
In our daily life, proclamation does not always mean preaching words. It can mean
how we live—our patience, our honesty, our forgiveness, our kindness when it is
difficult. These are small but powerful ways the Gospel continues to spread.
And St. Mark reminds us: the Church is always a “sent” Church. We are not meant to
keep faith inside us, but to let it move through us into the world.
Question to ponder today: Where is Christ sending me today—and do I trust that
He will work with me, even in my weakness?
