Mark 4:21–25 LET THE LIGHT SHINE
Year A, Thursday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of a lamp that is meant to be placed on a lampstand, not hidden under a basket. Light, by its very nature, is meant to be seen. In the same way, faith is not meant to be kept private or hidden, but lived and shared.
Jesus reminds us that what we receive from God is a gift meant for others. The Word we hear, the mercy we experience, and the faith we are given are all meant to shape how we live and how we treat others. When we listen carefully and respond generously, more is given; when we ignore or neglect the gift, even what we have can fade.
This Gospel quietly challenges us to examine our witness. Are we allowing Christ’s light to shine through our words and actions? Even small acts of kindness, patience, and faith can illuminate the lives of others and reveal God’s presence in the world.
Question to Ponder: In what simple ways is Jesus inviting me to let His light shine through my life?
