Mark 8:1–10 MOVED WITH COMPASSION
Year A, Saturday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus sees a large crowd that has remained with Him for days, listening and learning. He notices their hunger and is moved with compassion. Jesus does not send them away empty; instead, He feeds them with what is available—seven loaves and a few fish—and all are satisfied.
This passage reveals the heart of Jesus. He cares for both spiritual and physical needs. His compassion is attentive and practical, reminding us that faith is lived not only in prayer, but also in concrete acts of care for others.
The miracle also teaches us trust. The disciples offer what little they have, and in Jesus’ hands it becomes more than enough. When we place our limited resources—time, energy, love—into God’s hands, He multiplies them for the good of others.
We are invited to recognize Christ’s compassion at work in our lives and to share that same compassion with those around us.
Question to Ponder: What little do I need to place in Jesus’ hands so that He may use it to nourish others?
With Love and Prayers
