Mark 7:14–23 CLEAN HEARTS, HOLY LIVES
Year A, Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that what truly defiles a person does not come from the outside, but from within the heart. He reminds us that sin begins not with what we touch or consume, but with the thoughts, words, and choices that flow from within us.
This teaching calls us to honest self-reflection. It is easy to focus on external behaviors or appearances, while neglecting the inner life where faith is formed. Jesus invites us to look deeper—to examine our intentions, attitudes, and desires.
A clean heart is not achieved by our own strength alone. It is a gift of grace that comes through prayer, repentance, and openness to God’s transforming love. When we allow Christ to shape our hearts, our actions naturally reflect His goodness.
This Gospel encourages us to seek interior renewal, trusting that God’s mercy can purify and renew us from the inside out.
Question to Ponder: What attitudes or habits within my heart does Christ invite me to heal and purify today?
