Luke 1:26–38 A “YES” THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

Year A, Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, the moment when the angel Gabriel appears to Mary and invites

her into God’s plan of salvation.

Mary’s response is simple, yet extraordinary: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.”

With this “yes,” everything changes. God becomes one of us. Salvation begins to unfold in a new and personal way.

But we should not imagine this “yes” was easy. Mary did not have all the answers. She did not know what the future would hold —

the challenges, the suffering, even the cross. Yet she trusted God completely.

This is what makes her response so powerful. It was not a “yes” based on certainty, but a “yes” rooted in faith. In our own lives,

we often wait for everything to be clear before we commit ourselves. We want guarantees, security, and full understanding.

But God often invites us, like Mary, to trust Him step by step.

Every day, we are given opportunities to say “yes” to God —  in small acts of kindness, in choosing patience over anger,

in forgiving someone who has hurt us, in trusting God during uncertainty.

Most of these “yeses” are quiet and unseen. But like Mary’s, they have the power to bring Christ into the world.

The Annunciation reminds us that God works through willing hearts. He does not force His plan upon us; He invites us to cooperate with Him.

Marys “yes” became the doorway through which Christ entered the world. Our “yes,” even in small ways, allows Christ to enter

the lives of others through us.

Question to Ponder: What is God asking of me today, and how can I respond with

a trusting “yes” like Mary?
