Mark 6:30–34 COME AWAY AND REST
Year A, Saturday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, the apostles return to Jesus and share all that they have done and taught. Seeing their fatigue, Jesus invites them to come away to a quiet place and rest awhile. Yet when they arrive, the crowds are already there, waiting.
Moved with compassion, Jesus sets aside rest to tend to the people, for He sees them as sheep without a shepherd. His response reminds us that true rest flows from love and compassion. Even in exhaustion, Jesus remains attentive to human need.
This Gospel speaks gently to our own lives. We are invited to rest in the Lord, but we are also called to allow compassion to guide our choices. When we stay close to Jesus, He helps us balance rest and service, drawing strength from Him so that we can care for others with patience and love.
Question to Ponder: Do I make time to rest with the Lord so that I can serve others with compassion and strength?
