LUKE 8:1–3 EVERYONE HAS A PART IN THE MISSION
Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time – Year A
Today's Gospel gives us a beautiful picture of Jesus' ministry. He travels from one town and village to another, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. The Twelve are with Him, but they are not alone. Several women also accompany Jesus and support Him out of their own resources. They may not have preached to crowds or performed miracles, but their generosity helped make Jesus' mission possible. Their names may not be familiar to us, but Jesus noticed them—and the Church remembers them.
Sometimes we think that only the people who stand in front of others are doing God's work. We notice the priest at the altar, the lector at the ambo, the cantor leading the music, or the catechist teaching the children. But behind every parish community are countless people whose quiet generosity makes everything possible: someone who cleans the church, prepares a meal, visits a sick person, teaches a child, gives financially, prays for others, or simply welcomes someone at the door. The Kingdom of God is built not only by what happens on the altar, but also by what happens quietly behind the scenes.
So today, let us ask ourselves: What is my part in the mission of Jesus? Maybe we have been waiting for something big or important to do. But perhaps God is simply asking us to give what we already have—our time, our talents, our resources, our prayers, or our presence. We don't have to be famous to make a difference. A generous heart can become part of God's work in ways we may never see. Like the women in today's Gospel, let us give what we can and trust God to use it for His Kingdom.
