John 3:16–21 LOVED INTO THE LIGHT
Year A, Wednesday of the Second Week of Easter
Today’s Gospel gives us one of the most beautiful and well-known truths of our
faith: “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” At the heart of everything
we believe is this simple reality—God loves us. Not because we are perfect, not
because we deserve it, but because that is who God is.
This love is not distant or abstract. It is active and personal. God gives His Son, not
to condemn the world, but to save it. Jesus does not come to point fingers or to
judge harshly, but to bring healing, mercy, and new life. This is the heart of Easter:
we are loved into new life.
Yet the Gospel also speaks about light and darkness. The light has come into the
world, but some prefer darkness. Why? Because light reveals. It brings truth. It calls
us to step out of hiding and into honesty.
This is where the Gospel touches our daily lives. There are areas in our lives we
would rather keep hidden—habits, struggles, fears, or choices we are not proud of.
It can feel safer to remain in the “dark,” where we do not have to face them. But
Jesus invites us into the light—not to shame us, but to heal us.
To live in the light means to live in truth, openness, and trust. It means allowing God
to see us as we are and to transform us with His love. It is not always easy, but it is
the path to real peace and joy.
Easter reminds us that the light of Christ has already overcome the darkness. We
are not walking into the light alone—we are led by the One who loves us
completely.
Food for Thought: Is there any area of my life that I am keeping in the “dark,” and
how is God inviting me to bring it into His light?
