MARK 11: 27-33 WHEN WE RESIST THE TRUTH

YEAR A, SATURDAY OF THE 8TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

In today’s Gospel, the religious leaders ask Jesus, “By what authority are you doing these things?” It sounds like an honest question, but deep down, they are not really searching for truth. They are protecting their position and avoiding change.

And if we are honest, we sometimes do the same.

There are moments when God challenges us—through Scripture, prayer, conscience, or even through the words of someone close to us. But instead of listening openly, we become defensive or uncomfortable. Not because we do not understand, but because truth can ask something of us.

The leaders in the Gospel feared losing control and public approval. That struggle is very human. We all like certainty and control. Change can feel threatening.

Jesus does not reject honest questions. In fact, faith grows through sincere searching. But there is a difference between seeking truth and resisting it.

The Gospel invites us to examine our own hearts. Are we asking questions because we truly want God’s guidance—or because we hope to avoid what He may be asking of us?

Real faith requires humility—the courage to admit that we do not have all the answers and the openness to let God lead us beyond our comfort. And that is where transformation begins.

Question to ponder today: Is there an area of my life where I already know what is right, but still resist God’s invitation to change or trust more deeply?

With Love and Prayers
