MARK 2:1–12 FAITH THAT MOVES
Year A Friday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, we see a remarkable display of faith and determination. A paralytic is brought to Jesus, but the house is so crowded that his friends cannot reach Him. Undeterred, they make a bold and creative choice: they lower him through the roof, right in front of Jesus.
Jesus is moved by their faith. He first forgives the man’s sins, showing that spiritual healing precedes physical healing. Then, to demonstrate His authority, He heals the paralytic, who rises and walks home, bringing astonishment to everyone present.
This Gospel reminds us that faith is active. Faith is not passive waiting; it involves courage, persistence, and sometimes even creative effort to bring ourselves or others closer to Christ. It also reminds us that Jesus desires our wholeness—healing our hearts, minds, and bodies—and that encountering Him transforms our lives.
Question to Ponder: How can I bring my faith, or the faith of others, boldly to Jesus, trusting in His power to heal and restore?
