Luke 1:26–38 A Love That Embraces Yes
Year A, Friday of the 2nd Week of Advent – Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
In today’s Gospel, we hear the angel Gabriel’s visit to Mary, bringing the startling message that she has been chosen to bear the Son of God. As we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we reflect on a love that asks for openness, trust, and surrender. God’s love is not demanding in a harsh way; it invites, it respects, and it empowers.
Mary’s response, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word,” shows us the beauty of a heart fully open to God’s plan. Last week, Hope invited us to cry, “Maranatha—come, Lord Jesus,” and this week Love teaches us to respond with courage, humility, and trust.
Mary’s “yes” was not given lightly. She faced uncertainty, misunderstanding, and the weight of an unimaginable mission. Yet her love for God, rooted in faith and humility, allowed her to embrace what was asked of her. God’s love does not force; it calls. It invites us to cooperate freely, to place ourselves in His hands, and to trust that His plan is perfect, even when it challenges us.
Like Mary, we are invited to say “yes” in our daily lives—to love God through obedience, through courage, and through willingness to serve others. Advent Love is about preparing the way of the Lord in our hearts by saying “yes” to God’s will, allowing His love to transform us and shine through us to the world.
As we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, may her example inspire us to respond to God’s invitations with trust, courage, and generous love, letting His plan unfold in our lives with joy and fidelity.
Question to Ponder: How can I, like Mary, open my heart to God’s plan and say “yes” to His love in my life today?
With Love and Prayers
