Lk 1:26-38 Chosen Before Time: Living God’s Plan

Year A, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Today we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a mystery that shows us God’s grace at work in the world—and in our lives. St. Paul reminds us in Ephesians: “He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we might be holy and blameless before Him.” Even before time began, God had a plan for each of us, giving our lives meaning, even in ordinary or challenging moments.

In the Gospel, the angel Gabriel greets Mary: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” Mary, a young woman like many of us, is called to an extraordinary mission. Yet she responds with courage and humility: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Her “yes” changed history.

Mary teaches us that holiness is not about perfection, but about openness to God’s will and trust in His plan. How often do we hesitate to say yes to God, afraid of the unknown or doubting our abilities? Just as Mary was preserved from sin to become a vessel of God’s love, we too are called to let God’s grace shape our hearts, words, and actions. Every act of kindness, patience, and service becomes part of God’s plan.

Mary’s life reminds us that freedom and God’s plan go hand in hand. She was fully human, fully free, yet fully open to God. This Advent invites us to align our choices with God’s plan in our families, work, relationships, and small daily acts of love.

Brothers and sisters, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception calls us to trust God’s grace at work in our lives. Like Mary, may we have the courage to say yes, the humility to accept His guidance, and the faith to know that He is always with us.
