Mark 4:35–41 PEACE IN THE STORM
Year A, Saturday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, the disciples find themselves caught in a violent storm while crossing the sea. The waves threaten to overwhelm the boat, and fear grips their hearts. Jesus, however, is asleep. In desperation, they wake Him, asking if He even cares that they are perishing.
Jesus calms the storm with a word and then gently questions the disciples: “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” The storm reveals not only the power of nature, but also the struggle within the disciples’ hearts to trust fully in Jesus’ presence.
This Gospel speaks to the storms in our own lives—moments of fear, uncertainty, illness, or loss. Jesus may seem silent at times, but He is always present. When we turn to Him in faith, He brings a deeper peace—not always by removing the storm, but by calming our hearts within it.
Question to Ponder: When I face fear or uncertainty, do I trust that Jesus is present with me, even when He seems silent?
