John 5:17–30 GOD IS STILL AT WORK
Year A, Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says something very powerful: “My Father is at work until now, so I am at work.”
Jesus speaks these words after healing a man on the Sabbath. Some of the religious leaders are upset because they believe He has broken the law. But Jesus reveals something deeper — God is always working. His love, mercy, and saving power never take a day off.
Sometimes in our lives it can feel as though God is distant or silent. We may pray for guidance, healing, or strength, yet the answers seem slow or unclear. During those moments we might wonder if God is really present in our struggles.
But today’s Gospel reminds us that God is always at work — even when we cannot immediately see the results. Just as Jesus continued the work of the Father, God continues to work quietly within our lives, guiding, healing, and shaping our hearts.
Lent helps us become more attentive to this hidden work of God. Through prayer, reflection, and acts of charity, we begin to recognize the small ways God moves within our daily experiences — in moments of forgiveness, patience, kindness, and renewed hope.
Sometimes the greatest miracles are not dramatic events but the gradual transformation of our hearts. Even when life feels uncertain or difficult, we can trust that God is not inactive. He is still working within us and around us, drawing us closer to Him.
Question to Ponder: Where might God already be quietly at work in my life, even if I have not fully noticed it yet?
