JOHN 12:44–50 LIGHT FOR OUR ORDINARY DAYS

Year A, Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Easter

In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks about light. “I came into the world as light, so that

everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.”

We all know what “darkness” feels like — not just outside, but inside. Confusion

about decisions, worry about the future, struggles in relationships, moments when

we feel lost or unsure. These are part of everyday life.

Jesus does not pretend these things don’t exist. Instead, He says: you don’t have to

stay there.

But here is the challenge — light is helpful only if we are willing to walk in it.

Sometimes we prefer our own way, even when it leads to more confusion. We hear

God’s word, but we delay, ignore, or adjust it to fit our comfort.

Jesus reminds us that His word is not meant to burden us, but to guide us toward

life. Not just eternal life later, but a clearer, more peaceful life even now.

Faith, then, is not just believing in Jesus — it is allowing His light to shape our daily

choices.

Question to ponder today: Where in my daily life am I still choosing darkness

instead of allowing Jesus to guide me with His light?
