LUKE 9:1–6 YOU HAVE ENOUGH TO BEGIN

Wednesday of the 25th Week in Ordinary Time – Year A

Jesus sends the Twelve out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. But He tells them to take almost nothing with them—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, not even an extra tunic. Why? Jesus wants them to learn that the mission does not depend on having everything they think they need. They have Him, and that is enough to begin.

We often think we need more before we can do something for God. We say, “I don't have enough time,” “I don't know enough,” “Someone else could do it better,” or “Maybe when life settles down, I will get more involved.” But Jesus sends His disciples as they are. Perhaps the gift we can offer today is much simpler than we imagine: a phone call to someone who is lonely, a kind word, forgiveness, a visit, a prayer, or simply being present to someone who needs us. God can do much more with our small offering than we can imagine.

So the question for us today is: What am I waiting for before I begin? We may never feel completely ready, completely prepared, or completely equipped. But Jesus does not ask us to have everything. He asks us to trust Him and take the next step. May we stop waiting for the perfect moment and place what we have—however small—into His hands. When Jesus sends us, what we have is enough to begin.
