MATTHEW 19:23-30 WHAT ARE WE REALLY INVESTING IN?
Year A, Tuesday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time

In today's Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples how difficult it can be for those who are attached to wealth to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The disciples are shocked and ask, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus reminds them that salvation is not something we can achieve by our own strength: “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” Our salvation is always a gift of God's grace.

The problem is not simply having possessions; the problem is when our possessions begin to possess us. We can become attached not only to money and material things, but also to our position, reputation, accomplishments, plans, or even our need to be in control. We can spend so much of our lives building something that will eventually pass away while neglecting the things that truly last. Jesus asks us to examine where our security really comes from. Do we trust in what we have, or do we trust in the One who gives us everything?

Perhaps today's Gospel invites us to ask ourselves: If I had to choose between having more and becoming closer to God, which would I choose? Jesus does not promise that following Him will leave us with less; He promises that nothing we surrender for His sake will ultimately be wasted. When we place our lives, possessions, and future in God's hands, He gives us something the world cannot give—freedom, peace, and the promise of eternal life. With God, what seems impossible can become possible. Let us ask for the grace to trust Him more than we trust anything we possess.

With Love and Prayers
