MARK 12: 18-27 GOD IS THE GOD OF THE LIVING

Year A, Wednesday of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, the Sadducees question Jesus about the resurrection. But they are not really searching for truth—they are trying to make belief in eternal life sound unreasonable. Jesus responds firmly and ends with powerful words: “He is not God of the dead but of the living.”

Those words touch something deep within us.

Most people carry questions about life, death, and what lies beyond. We experience loss. We stand at gravesides. We miss people we love. And sometimes, quietly, we wonder what happens after this life.

Jesus does not explain heaven in detail or satisfy every curiosity. Instead, He points us toward trust. Eternal life is not simply an extension of earthly life. It is a new life, beyond our limited understanding, held in God Himself.

And this matters not only after death—but now. If God is the God of the living, then faith is not about fear or empty rituals. It is about living with hope.

Many people today feel emotionally or spiritually tired, almost lifeless inside because of stress, grief, disappointment, or routine. Yet God desires more than survival. He wants us to live fully—with hope, purpose, and trust.

Jesus reminds us that death, loss, and suffering do not have the final word. The God who called Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is still faithful. His love does not end at the grave.

And perhaps that is the hope we need today: we belong not to darkness or despair, but to the God of the living.

Question to ponder today: Do I live each day with the hope and trust that I truly belong to the God of the living?

With Love and Prayers
