John 3:7b–15 LIFT YOUR EYES AND BELIEVE
Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter
In today’s Gospel, Jesus continues His conversation with Nicodemus, inviting
him—and us—into a deeper understanding of faith. He speaks again about being
“born from above,” reminding us that the life of faith is not something we can control
or fully grasp. It is a gift that calls for openness and trust.
Jesus then uses a powerful image from the Old Testament: just as Moses lifted up
the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. Those who looked
upon the serpent were healed; now, those who look upon Christ with faith will
receive new life.
This is the invitation of Easter—to lift our eyes.
So often, we are focused on our problems, our fears, and our limitations. We can
become trapped in what is happening around us. But Jesus calls us to look
beyond—to fix our gaze on Him. Because when we look to Christ, especially in His
sacrifice and Resurrection, we begin to see differently. We find hope, healing, and
direction.
Faith is not about having all the answers. It is about choosing where we look. When
we lift our eyes to Christ, we begin to trust that God is at work, even in ways we do
not fully understand.
Food for Thought: Where is my focus today—on my struggles, or on Christ who
brings life and hope?
