MARK 2:18-22 NEW WINE, NEW HEARTS
Year A, Monday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is questioned about fasting. Instead of giving a rule, He offers an image. He speaks of a wedding feast, new wine, and new wineskins. With this, Jesus reminds us that His presence brings something new—something living and joyful that cannot be contained by old ways of thinking.

Jesus is not rejecting tradition; He is inviting transformation. When Christ enters our lives, He calls us not just to follow external practices, but to allow our hearts to be renewed. New wine needs new wineskins—faith that is open, flexible, and ready to grow.

Today, this Gospel gently challenges us. Are we holding on to habits, attitudes, or expectations that leave no room for God’s new work in us? Or are we willing to let the joy and freshness of Christ reshape our hearts each day?

Question to Ponder: What might Jesus be inviting me to renew or let go of so that His life and joy can fully take root in me?
