Luke 2:22–35 WAITING IN HOPE, RESTING IN PEACE
Year A, Monday - 5th Day in the Octave of Christmas
In today’s Gospel, we meet Simeon, a man who has spent his life waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled. When Mary and Joseph bring the child Jesus into the Temple, Simeon immediately recognizes that this small child is the salvation he has been longing for. Holding Jesus in his arms, Simeon finds peace—not because his life is free from struggle, but because God has been faithful.
Simeon calls Jesus a light for all nations. This light brings hope and clarity, yet it also reveals truth. Simeon reminds Mary that following Christ will not be without pain. The peace Jesus brings is not shallow or temporary; it is a peace that remains even in suffering, because God is present and at work.
During this Octave of Christmas, Simeon invites us to slow down, to recognize Christ in our midst, and to trust God’s promises. Like Simeon, may we learn to rest in God’s faithfulness and allow the light of Christ to guide our hearts each day.
Question to Ponder:
Where in my life am I being invited to trust God more deeply and rest in the peace Christ brings?
